PROTECTING THE WATERWAYS OF THE lehigh valley

Lehigh County Authority operates the wastewater system in the City of Allentown, which is the “central hub” of the regional system that provides wastewater collection service to 14 municipalities in Lehigh County. A network of over 800 miles of pipe conveys wastewater to the treatment plant located at the confluence of the Lehigh River and Little Lehigh Creek. The Kline’s Island Wastewater Treatment Plant provides treatment services for more than 150,000 people throughout Lehigh County, treating 33 million-gallons of wastewater each day. Industrial Users discharge approximately 5 million-gallons per day (MGD) to Kline’s Island, which includes flow from the Lehigh County Authority’s Pretreatment Plant in Fogelsville. Plant operation and pretreatment staff work jointly to ensure the safe and consistent operation of the wastewater treatment plant.
